New Chocolate Decadence Tour!

September 8th, 2010

Chocolate! Rich, delicious, wonderful chocolate! We’re happy to announce that in addition to showcasing some of Portland’s best food, beer, and attractions, Portland Walking Tours is now showing off another of the city’s most delicious assets, its chocolate. Our new Chocolate Decadence tour is no mere candy shop tour, rather we’ve assembled some of PDX’s finest chocolatiers and are ready to introduce you to the vast world of chocolate from bean to bar and beyond. Like wine, chocolate comes in different varieties, types and kinds, and by the end of the tour, full of guided tastings, stimulating commentary, and sweet exploration, you’ll earn an honorary degree in “Chocology,” setting you heads and shoulders above your average chocoholic.

The tour takes place every Friday, Saturday and Sunday beginning from inside the Heathman Hotel in their mezzanine library at 3:00 p.m. The tour will take approximately 2.5 hours and involve just over a mile of walking (which is a great way to work off some of those calories!).

“Chocolate Decadence” Tour Gives Food Lovers Taste of Portland’s Sweet Indulgences
Portland Walking Tours Exposes All Things Chocolate on this Fun and Tasty Adventure

PORTLAND, Ore. – September 8, 2010 – In a city known for its beer and coffee indulgences, Portland produces no shortage of the world’s favorite dessert – chocolate. While the beer snobs and coffee junkies and are yammering away about their respective libations, Portland Walking Tour’s Chocolate Decadence tour has guests taste chocolate in a myriad of forms – be it whipped, baked, melted, or served as a drinkable.

Led by engaging tour guides brimming with colorful stories, anecdotes and fun facts about chocolate and the city of Portland, the tour winds on foot through Portland’s vibrant and inviting downtown. This unique journey invites visitors to:
* Explore chocolates numerous permutations. Each tour visits at least seven distinct locations where chocolate surprises all with its diversity and versatility;
* Crunch through recently roasted chocolate nibs, smell and savor hand-crafted pastries fresh from the oven, sink your teeth into the finest chocolates in the world, savor decadent gelatos, relish the flavor of a fine chocolate vinegar and let rich truffles melt in your mouth;
* Dive into a culinary world every bit as diverse and complex as wine. Different beans from different regions mean different tastes, and our guides will help all savor the various forms of chocolate – from the subtle to intense; and
* Discover how chocolate is made, worked, crafted, cooked and prepared.

“This Chocolate Decadence tour has been requested by guests taking our Epicurean Excursion over the last 5 years. With over 20 chocolatiers making Portland their home, locals already know how special this culinary asset is,” said David Schargel, founder of Portland Walking Tours. ”Plus, calories don’t count when you’re on vacation!”

Offered at 3 p.m., Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays year-round, the 2.5-hour Chocolate Decadence tour begins at the Heathman Hotel and is limited to intimate groups of 16 people per tour to preserve the flexible and personal nature of the walk. In addition to expert commentary on Portland’s culinary scene, all the tastes are included in the $59 price per person. Online discounts readily available through 2012.
