Portland Walking Tours

Portland has great beat-the-heat options

September 10th, 2013

So much for Portland being a cool, gray, damp place, eh?

With the weather expected to soar into the 90s much of this week, you’ll need ways to keep cool. Here are some of our favorites:

* Keep cool in the pool. Portland Parks operates public pools all around the metro area. To find swim hours (including classes and free swim), check their catalog at https://www.portlandoregon.gov/parks/article/462368.

* Go Underground! Take an Underground Portland and Beyond Bizarre Walking Tour and get underneath the city for a brief spell (about 1/4 to 1/3 of the tour). Besides… these tours are way cool. You’ll see the city’s coolest places. See how cool you’ll be?

* Take a brewery tour! Sip a cool one – craft brew, that is – in one of Portland’s 50+ breweries and their many affiliated pubs. If you’re in a group, take a Brewvana Walking Tour and get inside the brewery and see how it’s all done!

* Take a hike. Yes, exercise can cool you down… if you plan well. Portland’s 5,000-acre Forest Park’s leafy canopy and bubbling brooks will keep the heat down as you take in nature’s kindnesses.
