Riches of a City

March 29th, 2011

What makes a city “rich”? Is it the monetary wealth of its richest citizens? The value of land held by public agencies? Its “livability rating” published by a magazine 3,000 miles away?

Those factors matter to some, but in Portland we have other metrics. We value our history, our people-oriented city ethic, the innovations contributed by those in the public and private sectors alike. And we also value our cultural amenities.

Some of Portland’s most avid collectors of internationally renowned art have shown us once again that a city is enriched not only by the money we make, but the culture we share. These collectors have shared their favorites, which include works by Durer, Lautrec, Picasso, and Warhol, among others. with the Portland Art Museum and are on public display thru May 22.
