Tours: Who Is Portland?

Overview

A tour into the heart & soul of Portlanders.

The only way to truly understand Portland is to dive into its community and find the soul of its creative pulse, and Portland Walking Tours has found a way to do just that with its new "Who Is Portland?" tour. This is the first and only tour in Portland that allows locals and visitors to go behind-the-scenes, inside the creative hearts, minds, and makerspaces of passionate local artisans - a chance to meet and chat with these artisans. Makers & their amazing things are so facinating, and you'll see that it's their passion and dedication to quality, craftsmanship, and collaboration that are even more facinating.

Portland has become the worldwide “poster child” for an artisan renaissance. Why Portland? Why now? On this fun and fascinating walking tour within the up-and-coming Central Eastside neighborhood, it becomes obvious that Portland’s cultural roots lie deep within its desire to help out neighbors, feel connected to our community, and incubate our up-and-comers. In Portland, terms like “local artist” and “craftsperson” are synonymous with “Portlander”. It’s simply who we are.

Join Us Behind-The-Scenes Into Artisan Studios and Makerspaces.

From among hundreds of tool libraries, workshops, makerspaces, and hackerspaces, each tour guide chooses at least four locations that are home to dozens of artisans. The company’s 2017 partners include the ADX makerspace, the Portland Apparel Lab makerspace, JBird Collective leather goods, DIY Bar craft studio, Robert Hunter Bodywork Tables woodworkers, Eberhardt Press printers, and Base Camp Brewing taproom
